What Is A Continuously Variable Transmission(CVT)?

The planetary gear automatic gearbox mentioned in previous article is the first automatic transmission type that most people come into contact with, however, the continuously variable transmission(CVT) that to be introduced has a history as long as the planetary gear automatic gearbox's. Early in 1886, CVT had been installed on a Mercedes-Benz car. However, because the technology in all aspects of transmission parts had not yet refined, the structure of the transmission at the time were neglected. As technology advances, CVT technology gradually becomes mature, and its advantage in the aspects of transmission smoothness and fuel economy were highlighted out.
