The Basic Functions of the Car Gearbox

Car gearbox is composed of variable-speed control mechanism and speed change control mechanism, if necessary, the addtional power output device canl be installed. There are two ways in the classification: According to the transmission ratio changes, or the ways to control the car. The transmission has several functions:

1. Change the gear ratio to expand the range of drive wheel torque and speed, so to accommodate the changing driving conditions, that enable the engine running under a favorable condition, namely high power but low fuel consumption;

2. In the case that the engine rotates in the same direction, the gearbox makes car go backwards;

3. Make use of neutral, or interrupt power transmission, so that the engine is to start, idle, and easy to shift gear or power output.
